Adventures at Money Point

On the last weekend of 2018, we visited an unusual spot near the old homestead in CT. Money Point has had a large house and side buildings on it ever since we were kids. We did poke around on the shore line and walked around the point, but never ventured onto the property too much. I recall in the early years there was no gate barring entrance from the road and it was possible, if you were a innocent-looking neighborhood kid, to run around in the forested western edge. In later years, a gate was added and the property appeared to be a rich person’s secretive private compound.
The land at the point was sold this summer. The house was demolished and removed. We previously reported on this here. They have dismantled the gate and have not put up any “no trespassing” signs, so wandering nosey people have a right to visit.
So, this weekend, we walked over and surveyed the grounds. The view from the house (looking directly south) is what you see here in the first image. The little rocky island you see at left-center is where the pirates buried their treasure, or so the rumor goes to explain how the point was named.
The view looking east, across the mouth of Poggy bay, is the little beach area and the houses along the south end of Skiff lane (below).
