From the archives is this curious testament of Davy Jones and the U.S. Navy welcoming a certain Ensign Gregory to the U.S. Navy’s submarine base at New London, CT, in ?
No date. One of the rules I learned from years with this ensign was to date everything. No date. Nothing on the back. Will take a bit of research to determine the years he was an ensign; will eventually get a date range. In the boxes in the archives, perhaps a piece of paper will document a more precise date.
We prepped our hummingbird feeders last weekend using a homemade syrup recipe from brother Tommy. Today was the first day we could do any observations on usage. During the week, one of the feeders appeared to have a slow but steady decline in volume. This does not guarantee active feeding and could be spillage and evaporation.
This morning while have coffee and muffin on the front steps, the birds buzzed in as usual but it was the second one that went to the feeder. Of course, we were not ready to capture the moment. A bit later, another one showed up. I grabbed my ipad and caught a picture, such as it is, when the bird left the feeder and investigated the primroses nearby.
