One of my most favorite photographs; according to the Public TV review of the moon missions, this view outside the command module appeared without warning; no one was expecting or looking forward to a sight such as this. The crew rushed to grab cameras and figure how to get a quality shot, once they understood it as compelling and meaningful.
This heron has been seen on this dock on the east side of the ice pond, just below the Allen estate. During a late afternoon, I was walking along the south end of the pond and notice him there. After waiting for a while with my 200mm lens equipped camera, I took a chance to walk back to the house and get my 600mm lens and tripod.
With some luck, he had not moved by the time I got back. So here is my 600mm shot. The bird remained standing for quite a while and, then, he took a bow! You can see it here!
After his bow, he then walked off stage.
