
During my brief visit south last week, I had time to visit the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge in Wells, Maine. This coastal reserve covers a large area of seaside forest and marsh along the Gulf of Maine. It is dedicated to the protection of seashore and migratory birds and their habitats. The walking trail on the site is quite short, no more than forty minutes to walk even factoring photo time.

Kennebunkport morning
A business conference allowed me to visit Kennebunkport, Maine this past week. After a very rainy day, the next morning was clear and crisp.

This is part of Maine’s working waterfronts. There was little boat traffic, commercial or otherwise. The tide is out, the trees are steadily losing their leaves, the tourists are gone and, for any shops open, everything is on sale.
The first President Bush’s house is a mile or two down the drive to the north.
