A mysterious new bird showed up during a recent walk over to the far bog (where the latest beaver development project lives). After a thorough trip through my copy of the Audubon Handbook of Eastern Birds (purchased second-hand for $7.50 in Peterborough NH), I found him: the cedar waxwing is an apparently a common scene in much of North America and is not generally associated with boggy land.

Dockside fishing
While investigating the entertainment along the Boothbay shoreline last weekend, The sudden appearance of a lone cormorant popping up out of the water along the dock surprised me.
At first, he appeared like the image on the left and then dove under the dock heading away from me. Of course, I was not ready to get a picture, so I waited hoping it would return. In about five to ten minutes, he did come back toward me and I got these shots.
