Recapping our 2022 autumn as it comes to a close. We have had some ice show up on the nearby pond (this is a shot from October on the beaver bog) and there has been minimal frozen precipitation. We had pretty good rainfall in October and we hit the long run average of 4 inches per year in November. This follows a spring and summer of moderate drought which appears to have caused a high quality leaf-peeping show for the tourists- as seen here: lots of reds.
On our nearby pond (not shown!), we have noted a significant decrease in water level – perhaps the most we have ever seen. This appears to be the result of a major repair of the nearby dam. The water management authorities usually lower the pond level for winter but this hasn’t happened in years due to the malfunctioning dam. Apparently everything is fixed now.
In contrast, the beavers have maintained the bog at maximum level.
