Rain, then wind

The rain storm of yesterday was followed by steady, strong winds. We found a wind blown nest made from twigs and birch bark on the ground (shown here sitting on an upturned pot).

Our recon today found snow machine trail bridges alpha and charlie unharmed by the flooding. The bridge bravo, which was an island yesterday, is now acting as a bridge again due to the continually draining stream.

The bridge delta, however, is almost an island, as shown below. It is, however, not significantly damaged or moved. It should return to usefulness in a day or two. The bridge echo, which the ice recently moved several feet, is still hopelessly impassable.

The major beaver dam upstream from bridge echo has burst in two places. This dramatically lowered the stream height behind it. This dam has been a major mission of the beavers this year. This dam is solid enough to walk across and includes stones with the usual twigs, branches, trunks, mud, and grass as building materials.

The second photo here is a look at the stream upstream from this dam. Before the dam, this was a narrow stream that emptied out the middle bog (in the background in this image)
