From the upper bog not far from our property; this would be even more colorful if we had a less cloudy evening

In the Maine woods

Image madagascal stream and dock edge

Looking north from the dock area where we spent the past weekend. The Madagascal stream runs north to south from the east of Lincoln, Maine (nearest big city, ha ha), to the Passadumkeag river. This is a meandering tributary which is fed by, wait for it, Madagascal Pond. See photo below for a spaceship view of the southern end of the stream. This is the section we regularly take canoe rides on.

For miles North (3 or so, at least) and south (less than a mile?), there is absolutely no evidence along the stream of human habitation. For all intents, the stream is their private playground. Access along it is limited by marsh, bog, or dense forest. Much of the adjacent shoreline property is owned by logging companies or landowners with large parcels which have been immune to sale to ordinary settlers.

There has been frequent logging on the property up and down the stream.

Image passadumkeag ridge

Looking south from a point a couple miles, or so, north of the dock. Look carefully at the ridge line in the background. This is the Passadumkeag Ridge where six or so wind turbines spin away.
