Fishing season begins
This week’s images are from several patrols along the old railway line; we found google by accident down along the creek, apparently fishing. Shortly after this image was taken a pair of ducks paddled leisurely downstream past us, mostly oblivious to our presence although we were less than 20 feet from them.
A large bird feather lay directly in the middle of the trail; normally we see turkey feathers but this is one very dark: a large crow or grackle perhaps?
In our continuing effort to document the remaining pieces of the old railway infrastructure: the last photo shows the stump of a utility pole that may have existed at the time of the line use (mid 1920s) but this is speculation. It may be from a telephone or utility pole installed after the railway era (it seems pretty solid for a 80+ piece of wood stuck in the ground).
