Holiday weekend starts
The start of the long weekend provides some catch-up time with these pictures. The methodical matrix of woodpecker holes in the bark of a white birch is produced by the yellow-bellied sap sucker (at left).
We also caught some of the blooming of the local lichen (next image) and the triple play of the lady slippers follows (last year there were only two plants in this spot). These are the same plants shown two posts ago.
The relatively rare and delicate lady slipper is an unusual northern orchid that is doing well in this area recently.
