Egret on Poggy Bay marsh

johngregsite Posted on 1-Oct-2017 by john1-Oct-2017

D7K_7898_zDuring our visit to Mystic in September, we got pictures of many great egrets. The great egret, yellow dagger-like beak, thin black legs, and the body of a heron, was spotted around the Ice pond, at most locations around Poggy Bay, and over at the Yacht Club and Enders Island.

Here at left, on the far dock across Poggy Bay, this egret stood on one leg for the entire time, 30 minutes?, that we spent observing the wild life one morning. D7K_7922_z
At right, beyond the dock along the stone wall edging was a heron.

These egrets were spotted by brother Tommy. This is only a partial shot of the entire crowd assembled along the east side of the ice pond on Saturday. There are eighteen here. I approached them from Ice Pond lane and they were oblivious to my presence.
