Yesterday’s recon to the beaver bog is captured with this nearly 180 degree panorama shot looking east. It was forty degrees and partly sunny: very strange January day in the woods.
We did not need snow shoes because of previous thawing but the soft snow was over a foot deep in spots.

The tradition is for Jan. 18-20 to be the coldest days of the year in central Maine (I heard from the TV weatherman yesterday). We have failed this year. It has been above freezing for awhile yesterday and today.
