More views of the winter

johngregsite Posted on 26-Feb-2016 by john26-Feb-2016

D81_2588z_160220We got over to the no-name pond and found it half ice and half water.

D81_2568z_160220The stream outlet from the beaver bog is pretty full. It has not gotten high enough to cover the repaired trail bridge bravo.

It is a winter of snow and rain; we have had minimal precipitating ice, sleet, frozen rain (which is good) but we are getting the extremes of temperatures. We had record high temperature for Feb. 25 yesterday.

Wacko weather report

D81_2597z_160220Since our last post, we have had snow. In fact we have had several inches several times. Most interesting is the rain that followed our snow storms. Today was forty degrees after early morning rain.

The upper bog view at left shows a full, running stream. Most areas with sunlight are losing snow cover.

The view below shows part of the snow machine trail through the wooded section between the bogs. You will notice several tracks from earlier this week embossed into the trail. We had two sets of stray dogs loose on two different evenings this week. These marks are very likely from one of the lost dog pairs. One of the searchers was the local animal control officer, but I am assuming the human tracks shown are from one of the owners.
