We are now in August and can note for the records that our month of July recorded 9.98 inches of rain. While we don’t have the history of our backyard at hand, it has been noted that Bangor, to the north, received a new all-time record of rain for the month. In Portland, to the south, they noted the most rain fell in July since a hundred years ago. It should be noted that the long-run average for our area is 4 inches a month. Our most recent years has not seen that kind of rain, however, so this year, and July are recent exceptions. To add to the suspense, we only know how much rain we got in July is because we obtained a rain gauge on our new weather station – see previous post. We don’t know what our actual rain-to-date is this year. We have been in a “moderate drought” according to the news.
Our foliage is doing fine, as can be imagined. The grape tomato and green beans are now pumping out produce. The tiger lilies, as shown, have been blooming, depending on their location in the yard, since June, it seems. They are typically an August flower but now they seem to be around all summer.
