The first day of spring on the no-name pond in the woods behind our house. We are a week or so away from “ice-out,” I guess. This body of water is part of a large property and is man-made. The foreground shown here is the “dike” or levee holding in the water. There is a camp at the far end on the left side. There are no “no trespassing” signs and we have seen people at the camp only once in 25 years.
During our visit, two ducks flew over as if to make a landing but they decided not to.
During last visit to MI while doing a patrol to the great marsh, we saw a large bird flying along the right side of the marsh. It settled high up in a tree maybe 300+ yards away (i.e., not the best for detail photos).
It looked like a hawk but seemed too wide/chunky. When the bird departed, it showed dark brown wing tops. My resulting image provides some additional specs, but not enough for me to identify using my books.
