MI ice pond update
The ice pond on Masons Island has been drained as part of an algae-infestation control effort. The strategy is to expose the bottom surface layers of composed leaves and mud; this may allow the nutrient gasses to disperse and the growth of algae to diminish.
There are contending analyses about the effectiveness of the effort. There are plans to physically remove the muck layer harboring the bad ingredients (phosphorus? nitrogen?) but the thousands of dollars required to fund it is contentious. For some reason, property owners not near the pond are not excited about paying additional association dues to clean up the pond.
