Backwoods update
Images of the past week from wandering in the back woods; a pine tree gets the full treatment from more than one woodpecker, we assume.
We found this female duck, later identified with uncertainty as a Northern Shoveler, sitting quietly at the base of a large tree on a part of the old rail trail that is no longer in use. The blogdog, with all his powers of sensing and detection, did not notice her. A scattering of feathers around her, her reluctance to move even as we walked unknowingly past her, strongly suggest she is sitting on eggs? I did not detect her until I caught her blinking; otherwise, her brown color was indistinguishable from the tree trunk she picked as a back stop (the image is supported by flash lighting, the setting was pretty dark).
Final image: The googler goes everywhere.
