Beaver habitat report
The highway culvert (at left) is where I believe the beaver will begin damming operations; there is no evidence that any work has started, however. The culvert itself is about 50% obstructed from naturally occurring debris. It is about 30-40 yards downstream from the suspected den (see third photo down at left). The most recent highwater mark would flood the area to about 60-70% of height of the den.
We can see a large pile of non-random, non-man-made branch debris in the stream next to the den (3rd image). The den itself is not very elegant; I have seen much better prepared habitat. I am not sure if the beaver is going to work at damming or hunker down for the winter. The only evidence of other wild life we have seen is many turkey tracks on the path that proceeds past the beaver-den and stream.
