Beavers are back

Our patrol yesterday confirmed suspicions that beavers have returned to what we call, the “Farthest bog.” This is on the snowmobile trail to the east (approximately one mile). They have felled a number of trees under two-inches in diameter. This one here (see left) is either on its way to the dam maintenance project or a lost cause. A new home has appeared about ten yards off the trail to the left (see below).
This area has not been regularly patrolled for years now because bridge-Echo on the snowmobile trail was impassable and, as such, crossing the creek at that point was usually out of the question (meaning one needed water-tight, high ankle, boots.
As reported earlier, the bridges have been repaired and my neighbor has yet to dismantle them.
The new home is to the right of the upright stump, i.e., right-center. It has mostly dark soil composition, a sign of its newness and seriousness.
On the map in the previous post, the Farthest bog is off the map at upper right (not to be confused with the “Far bog” at location B).
