Beavers up
During a recent patrol of the conservation land we found surprising evidence of new beaver activity. While the area around the bog has much evidence of past beaver activity, it has been dormant for several years. We located a fine looking beaver home (a pile of sticks, mud, and forest debris piled high out in the middle of the swampy area known as the “bog”) a year or so ago. The area has been devoid of new activity until now. We have assumed they had moved on.
It will be interesting to see if the beavers proceed to attempts at damming the local stream – it is typically quite meager and has no way of sustaining a beaver colony, in my opinion.
