Buffleheads on a winter day
During our weekend visit, we managed to visit the little beach a couple of times. Only on Sunday was the weather mild enough to get the camera out. A curious looking duck caught our attention and further research identified them as buffleheads. This is a species that winters along the North American coastlines from New England to South America and from Alaska south to South America. They summer in western Canada (check your bird book, their range is fascinating).
The other sights from the cove show a fishing trawler seemingly in mid-air as it travels between us and North Dumpling Isl.
Finally, a cormorant drifts past an idle seagull.
