We await the annual Maine tradition of contemplating “ice-out.” That is, when the ponds, streams, lakes, and back-yard compost bins no longer contain ice on a daily, continuous basis.
Here is our nearby pond on Easter Sunday (4/9) looking north. Subsequent visits on Monday registered a smaller ice blob. No ice-out yet.
We have noted the trails in the area no longer have snow on them.
Last weekend we ventured out to the nearby Beaver Bog (now Pond) near our house (Maine) and found a spot along the shore that provides a reasonably unobstructed view. If the ice cover ever melts and the expected bird populations arrive, we hope to get some wildlife images.
