We have survived two days with 80F+ temperatures and can confirm no more snow on the ground or ice in the waters.
Set out the hummingbird feeder based on advice from the south saying the migration has begun. Note: we have not seen any yet. Owls, loons, woodpeckers, and lots of other chirpers are out.
We await the annual Maine tradition of contemplating “ice-out.” That is, when the ponds, streams, lakes, and back-yard compost bins no longer contain ice on a daily, continuous basis.
Here is our nearby pond on Easter Sunday (4/9) looking north. Subsequent visits on Monday registered a smaller ice blob. No ice-out yet.
We have noted the trails in the area no longer have snow on them.
