While in Mystic last weekend, we found some birds of note. This great egret (left) was found at the ice pond both Saturday and Sunday.
We saw merganser ducks [4/16: not mergansers! I think they are horned grebes] on every trip down to the little beach. This one (below) looks a bit ragged and my identification is based on the red eyes; this is the best image I could get without a tripod since they stayed well out in the middle of Poggy Bay.


This is out on the no-name pond last week; there is some ice remaining, but just along the sheltered southern edge; the little weasel, or whatever, had the full attention of Murphy but we never saw any sign it knew we were watching …
