Evan goes to the races
Evan and the Northeastern Univ. sailing crew arrived at Taylor Pond in Auburn ME this weekend to race against Bates, Bowdoin, Wellesley, and Plymouth State (NH).
It was an overcast day with practically no wind all morning. Racing was postponed until after lunch.
Sherry inspected the boat while the youngsters got it ready and launched it.
We stayed for the first race, which ended up with Boat No. 6 (Bowdoin?) coming from third place using the light wind toward the shore to cruise past NU (#10) and #8. Last image here show #8 leading with NU (#10) second on the downwind leg after rounding the first mark (located behind #11 and #6). After rounding the second mark and beating to windward on the third leg, Boat # 6 roared past NU and #8 by staying closer to shore and picking up a better light breeze than the others. NU finished third.
