Fishing on the Kennebec R

On Day #36 of life in Coronia, I went to Augusta to get my truck repaired and inspected and oil changed. To use up the time waiting for this work to get done, I walked to downtown via the east side of the Kennebec river. Here [on the left] is a shot of the old railroad bridge and another old bridge. This is photo is taken north of the current Father Curran bridge, looking east from the west side of the river. The bridge piers shown may also be connected to the former Edwards Dam, which was dismantled ten to twenty years ago.
Today’s story involves what I saw while standing on the far shore to the left of the railroad bridge shown on the left in this image.

At one point on my walk near the bridges shown above, I spotted what I thought was a eagle but now appears to be an osprey in my photo here. This was an amazing demonstration (apologies for the not-that-great image but for a toy camera, a Lumix valued at $300, it is a great shot). The bird hovered over a hundred feet in the air probably 800 feet away, in place in a stiff 25+ mph wind, for many minutes. Then, suddenly, it dove dramatically and came up out of the water, wrestled and splashed for some seconds, then pulled away, prize in hand.
