We are expecting a temperature of 30F in the overnight; upon our return to ME we found the mother Northern Shoveler duck still sitting on her nest (she has switched directions and now faces the trunk of the tree). See the second photo.

The long olive beak is the primary identifier that suggests the Northern Shoveler species and not the more common Mallard.
