Ice stuck at Augusta
A close-up of the ice jam on the Kennebec at Augusta; south of Augusta, the ice on the river smooths out for a couple miles until it backs up again just north of Gardiner. We have photos of this section and will be posting them tomorrow.
The ice disappears at the Gardiner-Randolph bridge where open water is visible. Another ice jam occurred further south near Richmond. Coast Guard cutters attempted to break up the ice in the river up to Gardiner but couldn’t get past the Richmond/Dresden area.
