Just another Maine hay field
On one of our short bike rides over to So. Monmouth, we spotted this aircraft in a hay field: seems to be a working Piper Cub, or at least a well maintained display model. Not the typical field debris but when it comes to what you may find in a Maine backyard, one should suspend all assumptions. Sherry spotted this first, as it is on her daily commute.
All these photos today are taken with my old 105mm Nikor telephoto lens (F series?) which pre-dates automation. This means the photographer actually has to set aperature/shutter speed/ and focus by hand. To offset this monumental inadequacy, the digital camera allows one to see the immediate results of the shot so adjustments can be easily made, furthermore, back at the computer, poor images can be deleted with no waste of film or processing expense. The modern world is a better place but don’t you miss the backyard airplanes and hay field airstrips?

Some notes of interest on the airplane in the field:
a) there appears to be subtle camoflage stripping on the wing tops; we are mystified about the overall color scheme;
b) the downward curving wingtips: not typical but may suggest original sources and uses;
c) the pilot door is open?
