May two
Instead of watching the Kentucky Derby, we went out to the bog to enjoy the late sun shining on the dead trees and grasses filling the bog. It was the first sunny day with a decent temperature since last fall. It will be chilly again tonight.
While enjoying our first afternoon of the season on the back deck, we spied a female sapsucker woodpecker grazing on tree trunks. We saw chickadees and robins as well. On our way to the bog, we caught two mallards near the road. Despite the presence of Murphy and I, they waddled to the creek and slipped away upstream. Earlier in the week, we caught them near the outlet from the bog and they immediately flew away. There is a nest somewhere along here.
