Old bank bags

While we were in Jaffrey, we visited with a local real estate office. They provided interesting stories and background for the Rindge property and also had an amazing collection of old bank deposit bags. This collection of bags is a history of banking in New Hampshire.
Here is a variety from the former Monadnock National bank or Monadnock bank (they are the same institution but for a period of time they had a federal banking charter, requiring “National” or “N.A.” in their name, otherwise they would have been state chartered). The last one shown, from Cheshire National bank, was the primary bank in the bank holding company (CFX Corp.) that absorbed the Monadnock bank in 1992-3. The CFX outfit was subsequently assimilated by Citizens (a subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Scotland). Resistance was futile.
