More Christmas morning images

johngregsite Posted on 26-Dec-2015 by john26-Dec-2015

IMG_2731zMore images from Christmas morning; it was below freezing overnight and about 32f at daybreak. The sun helped create fog over the bog and creek.

You can see the fog through the woods above bridge Bravo. The Christmas eve rain has temporarily flooded the creek. It has almost wrapped around the far end of the bridge.

To the right of the bridge in the background is the area where we first spotted the racoon (see previous posting).

Below is the creek from across the road, near bridge Alpha.

Poggy bay mergansers

johngregsite Posted on 25-Dec-2015 by john24-Dec-2015

D81_0187z_150103-2During last year’s Mystic visit (it would have been in January 2015, so it is really this year …), we encountered a small flock of ducks on Poggy Bay. These are red-breasted mergansers according to my research. They are a sea coast visitor during the winter months. Southeastern CT is within their typical range but I have never seen them before.

Brownish colored head are the females. They both sport red eyes.
