Pre-vacation
In the next image, if you look carefully you will see a Tom Turkey who was wandering around in the vicinity of the turkey hen (see earlier photo below) one day later. We have visited the site many times since then and have never seen the turkey hen again. This makes sense since it seemed to be a vulnerable spot near our trail.
The last photo of the day is a scene from Horseshoe pond on the Litchfield and West Gardiner border. The brown land mass on the left is normally underwater and looking straight ahead: the clump of trees is normally an island. There is work being done on a dam downstream and they have breached the dam, allowing un-interrupted water outflow from this watershed. What you see is the pond with four feet of water drained away.
