We managed to get out to the back forty (or hundred, to be more accurate) several times this past week. The lack of recent snow has helped to preserve lots of tracks in the frozen snow cover. We have noted evidence of lots of deer and turkey.

The bear and I have taken parts of the left-overs from lumbering to make wooden cairns (you can see more of them at johnsfstop.com ~ you will need to scroll back to catch them).

The most interesting tracks of the week are shown in image 2 here. The five-fingered imprint (clearest example is upper right) could be a racoon or porcupine; we haven’t done any research, so we are guessing.

Among the other sites in our woods, there are five tree stands in the area that we know of, one of which we introduced in earlier posts this month. The stand in the third image, pardon the poor quality, has more amenities than usual such as an umbrella. The umbrella was hung in such a way that it twirls in the wind.
