School house road walk
We walked over to School House road and as we approached the spot where the Marina street runs closest to School House road, we checked out the two small ponds on each side of the road for a heron that Thom says is frequently there.
There was only a couple of mallards on the right side pond but the heron was standing on the left edge of the small pond on the left side.
We proceeded on School House until we got to the osprey nest (see image below). We inspected the wire mesh construction. Thom has noticed that other nests are constructed without any mesh, typically a wooden platform sits on the cross members. He has also noted that the platform nests seldom have any occupants and stay unused season after season.
Last summer this wire mesh platform looked like this (see right).
This wire mesh setup has osprey nests every year. He will be advising the overseers of one particular platform structure that the wire mesh design may induce an occupant after years of vacancies.
