Sheepscot bay sortie
On our annual one evening cruise (“a three-hour cruise…”) along the Maine coast on a boat out of Boothbay Harbor, we encountered another spectacular historical sight: a B-25 escorted by a F4U Corsair traveling up and down the bay at about 1000ft. If you remember, last year we had a B-17 cross over I-395 in front of us just south of Killingly, CT.
As these aircraft headed northeast, the Corsair started to trail smoke as if it had taken hits. I can only presume these two aircraft were on a practice run for the Aug-26 air show at the former Brunswick NAS. The adverts for the show suggest there will be these two aircraft types at the show. I also presume they must have lined up some other shows in the area in the mean time.

The F4U and B-25 scheduled for the Maine airshow at Brunswick Aug 26-28 are neither of these two aircraft. The F4U showing up at Brunswick was in Indianapolis at the time this aircraft flew over the bay. The B-25 scheduled for Brunswick is painted in silver and is not likely to be this aircraft.
