Springtime at the bog
Getting to the beaver bog two days after the start of spring 2013 required tromping in with tall boots. The snow was just under the height that causes wise wanderers to use snowshoes, but we managed. The late afternoon sun is low to the southwest but illuminates quite a bit due to the lack of foliage.
The creek is mostly snow-covered (as seen here) but the open portions show a full stream with plenty of motion. While the temperatures are only hovering slightly above freezing most of the time the last two days, it will require heavy rains over the next month to cause any flooding. Even if the current snow-cover melted suddenly, flooding would be unlikely.
Visible tracks include turkey and deer transits; there are smaller tracks that are mysteries. Bird activity is quiet.
