The flight of the great blue

The heron stands in the bottom right corner of the image.
On our annual Christmas and New Year visit to Mystic, we got an impressive landing sequence of a great blue heron over Poggy Bay marsh. The bird, which has been seen around the island over the recent months according to my brother, came unannounced down the middle of the bay from sea. As it reached the northend of the marsh, it flared its wings and performed a graceful right turn, coming around to a landing in the northeast back corner of the marsh.
The heron was spotted again the next day in front of the boat launch area where we previously saw the multitude of canada geese

The landing of the heron is the money shot
