Winter arrives

Yesterday’s patrol down to the pond edge reveals the largest extent of ice coverage so far this season. Official December average temps were reported to be slightly above average so far this year. When you consider it was single digits to start the last few days and we have had 50F temps earlier this month, the term “average” is not really helpful in understanding what to plan for this year, so far. Tonight, it will be mostly dark.

Our newest team member for our forest patrols is Jasper. He likes to run across the stream on the tree fall shown above. Despite being adventurous and fearless in the woods, he really can’t find his way out of an old tissue box.
