Wood work

On our patrol along the old rail trail today, we encountered this fallen tree. It is a twenty-thirty foot birch that came down this week since it wasn’t here last Sunday on our previous patrol. As we circled around it, we didn’t remember any storm strong enough to cause it.
Once we wandered over to the left side of the trail (the trail has been widened here into a driveway by the property owner in hopes of selling the land), we found out what happened.
The tree turned out to be an impressive beaver project. The base diameter was eighteen inches or more! We will see what they will be doing with this big hunk of wood and leaves. It is right on the edge of their newly flooded area between the middle bog and the rail trail.

Sounds like they just got dinner delivered. It should provide meals until Spring.
