We had a persistent hairy woodpecker working on the trees in the front yard today. He was at my shoulder height for several minutes and was scared away, then came back. After the second audition, he then flew higher up on another tree where I got the second picture.

On my way home earlier this week, I took this picture of Horseshoe pond; as you can tell, the foliage color is pre-peak.
