We are dealing with low snow totals this year so far. Here you can see the Beaver bog from near the outlet dam (and Bridge Charlie). There is about three inches or so in snow depths. It is just enough to make hiking in boots with or without crampons difficult. It can be done but takes up energy and time.
The lack of snow has also resulted in fewer trips by snow-machiners on our local trails. The lack of trails packed by these tourists has confined the amount of easy hiking to only a couple of routes. For example, our favorite walk to the nearby Woodbury Pond has not been easy because no snow-machiners have traveled down there. I need snow-shoes to get there and snow-shoes combined with Kayla, the 80-pound tour guide, is not a pleasant experience.
