Cormorant vs. seagull at the little beach

We visited the little beach on Tuesday morning. We were surprised to find two cormorants swimming around. This is closer than their usual visits. I soon discovered they were fishing and being quite successful. A seagull noticed this and arrived to watch.

After thinking how much the cormorants resembled the images of the Loch Ness Monster, I was amazed that one of them steamed around the rocks to get behind the seagull.

image D81_7437_zTuesday before TS-Jose has higher winds, very sprinkly rain, and misty gray clouds. Previous day’s fog has transitioned to haze. Tom says forecast for rain has been substantially decreased in scope and persistence.

This a.m. walk around was at high tide – nothing unusual but there were herons down at the Great Marsh (off of Money Point road) and at the Poggy Bay marsh. The later heron was closer and the images better, so he gets top billing here. There were cormorants and seagulls at the little beach – more pictures later.

Construction continues down toward the point on Nauyaug (sp?) and ice pond birds went away for the morning.
