Several years ago we planted some lily bulbs and they are coming up for July and August on a regular basis. This year they have managed to survive the slugs, which are taking their toll. I have put out little caps of beer based on available anti-slug theology. They are supposed to be attracted to the beer and then die; I find empty caps and no dead slugs?
There have been a group of crows out by the road of late. I caught one at the end of the driveway (the brownish object is a rusted chicken-wire protector that I cover the garbage with on pick-up day). Perhaps the crows are pointing out that I forgot to retrieve the wire?
From out on the bog. This is a heavily cropped image of an energetic bird spotted among the reeds and grasses. That is food in his beak, but I do not know if it is plant or animal.

Grand Falls
We spent the weekend in a small town which isn’t really a town but an unorganized territory, sort of like the old west except we are about an hour north of Bangor, Maine.
If you go north of Bangor on I-95 and turn right (east) at Howland, keep going until you notice there are no more utility poles along the road. One of the places you reach is called Grand Falls and it is named for the water falls shown here. You can get a sense from this image why the locals tend to call this “Grandiose Falls.” The waterway is the Passadumkeag Stream.
